Golfathon 2025

In the early hours of the morning, as most of the world was still fast asleep, a group of determined golfers teed off at 4:30 AM for what would become an extraordinary test of stamina, spirit, and generosity: The Golfathon Challenge.

Starting under the dim glow of dawn, these dedicated teams set out to complete 72 holes, four full rounds, of golf in a single day. They battled fatigue and the extremely hot weather, they pushed themselves to the limit. Each swing, step, and putt was not just for the scorecard, it was for a cause far greater.

The challenge was undertaken to raise vital funds for three remarkable charities, and the support from friends, families, and community members was nothing short of inspiring. Golfers were kept energised with food and refreshments throughout the day, but it was the encouragement and generous donations that truly fuelled their determination.

Thanks to the incredible efforts of the players and the unwavering support of donors, The Golfathon Challenge was a tremendous success. Every contribution made a meaningful impact, helping these charities continue their essential work in the community.

The team were joined in the final round by supporters which ended in a celebratory BBQ, which was fully deserved. A huge well done to those who took part. We’ll see you again next year!

The Parklane Group’s Charity Golf Day 2019 raises thousands for good causes

The Parklane Group’s annual Charity Golf Day has raised £8,390 for two charities by welcoming a hundred guests to a day of special events at Leeds Golf Centre. Events and activities included breakfast networking, golf coaching sessions from the experts at The Leadbetter Academy, Footgolf, a BBQ lunch, shot gun start golf, an evening dinner and a charity auction.

This year, two charities benefitted from the fundraising event

The Leanne Baker Trust, a charity which helps guide those suffering with mental illness and aiding recovery; and Leeds Community Foundation, which supports thousands of volunteer groups across the City.

During the day, attendees were treated to a range of activities

There was something both those with little or no experience and established golfers alike. Leeds Golf Centre has promoted itself as an inclusive club, offering non-golfers and those from backgrounds not traditionally associated with the sport, a way to get and stay active. Attendees were given use of the club’s popular Footgolf course, which uses footballs rather than golf balls, helping to promote inclusive participation, without the need for expensive equipment or specialist skills.

Naveen Ahmed, Director of The Parklane Group, said:

“This event builds on its success year on year. We’re so proud to have welcomed everyone to our club yet again, in support of two wonderful causes. As an inclusive and progressive club, making sure that we get young people involved and have fun is important to us, and I think that our event achieved that.”

“Over the past year, we’ve helped deliver important initiatives within the community, helping to promote positive messages around active lifestyles and breaking down the traditional barriers to sport. Leeds is a fantastic sporting City, and we’re delighted to be playing a part in that.”

Leeds Golf Centre is operated through The Parklane Group’s charitable arm, The Parklane Foundation

Leeds Golf Centre has delivered sessions with six schools from across Leeds since the start of the year, with an ambition to teach hundreds of students about the importance of exercise and focus. The initiatives are designed to boost confidence and embed values around hard work, discipline, respect and tolerance. Additionally, the club is in the early stages of working with a number of other sporting foundations in the region to expand its community outreach.

Having seen major successes in recent years, culminating in being named England Golf Club of the Year in 2018, The Parklane Group has recently submitted ambitious plans to help secure the centre’s future with an impressive redevelopment.

The Annual Parklane Foundation Dinner 2023

On Thursday, 30th November, The Parklane Foundation opened their doors once again to welcome cherished guests, family, and friends to the second annual Parklane Group Dinner. Despite the frosty weather, attendees arrived dressed to the nines, ready to embrace a fabulous evening at the iconic Headingley Stadium.

As guests stepped into the Howard Suite, they were greeted with an array of delightful canapés and invigorating mocktails, courtesy of the exceptional MyLahore. A beautifully curated grazing table brimmed with delectable nibbles, complemented by the melodious strains of orchestral music performed by Mark Oysten and his talented sons. The suite glimmered with the soft glow of Christmas trees and enchanting tree centerpieces, casting an inviting aura over the gathering.

Promptly at 7 PM, everyone took their seats as the evening commenced with a poignant video, illuminating the Parklane Foundation’s impactful endeavors. The Parklane Foundation’s remarkable efforts over the past year culminated in an astounding achievement: raising a staggering £80,000! This substantial sum was dedicated to our esteemed Charity Partners: Dementia UK, Alzheimer’s Society, and Leeds Hospitals Charity—each receiving a generous cheque of £20,000. The surplus funds will continue to bolster the Parklane Foundation’s support for local charities and communities, including initiatives like Footgolf sessions benefiting inner-city school children.

The evening unfolded with inspiring speakers, notably Barry Brindley from The Zikomo Trust. Last year, the Parklane Foundation contributed £4,000 towards building a school in Malawi for 240 children—a cause deeply resonant with the Parklane Group family, rooted in Malawi. In recognition of Barry’s unwavering commitment to charitable work in Malawi, he was honored with The Parklane Foundation Annual Award. Another cheque of £4,000 was presented to aid in furthering educational infrastructure in Malawi.

The latter part of the evening was dedicated to unveiling our Charities of the Year for 2024, focusing on the theme of homelessness: Crisis, St. George’s Crypt, and Simon on the Streets. The Parklane Foundation also pledged to donate a self-care package for every single guest who attended the dinner to the two local charities: St. George’s Crypt and Simon on the Streets. The packages include beanie hats, dental kits, shampoo, soap, and other hygiene products—a little festive gift for the cold winter months.

A heartfelt acknowledgment was extended to MyLahore for their exceptional catering, delighting guests with a sumptuous spread ranging from a tantalizing grazing table, canapés, and mocktails to an exquisite plated starter, a selection of curry mains, and an opulent dessert spread. Their impeccable service left an indelible mark on the evening, with guests still reminiscing about last year’s feast.

Musical talents added an extra layer of charm to the night, with an orchestral trio and Mark Oysten and his sons setting the perfect ambiance. The latter part of the evening saw the enchanting performance of Holly, a talented singer whose renditions of classic tunes ignited the dance floor and filled the room with infectious energy.

It was a night of warmth and inspiration, an opportunity to showcase the incredible impact of the Parklane Foundation’s work. Gratitude overflowed as heartfelt thanks were extended to all supporters whose generous contributions make this meaningful work possible.

A heartfelt thank you goes out to everyone who graced the event, and we eagerly anticipate reconnecting with you next year for another unforgettable evening!

Senior Masters Returns To Leeds Golf Centre

Calling golfers! Now is your chance to compete against top players at the 2018 Golf Club of the Year this summer.

Following the success of last year’s tournament, Leeds Golf Centre, crowned Club of the Year at the 2018 England Golf Awards, will be hosting the Senior Masters for the second year running from 26th – 28th June 2018.

Starting with the ProAm day on the 26th June, 9am-2pm, the high-key professional event promises three days of true golfing action. Teams of three of any age can enter to play at the ProAm, playing alongside some of the top players in the senior game, including Ryder Cup legend Gordon Brand, European Tour winners Andrew Sherborne and Paul Affleck and Senior Tour veteran, Brendan McGovern. New faces will include golfing legends such as Paul Streeter, David Shacklady, Gary Wolstrenholme and Gary Emerson.

Anyone can take part, but you need a handicap to enter to play at the ProAm. Members of the public with a handicap of 5 or lower can also enter the following days of the tournament as an amateur, with play starting at 9am.

The Senior Masters Tour is the home of regular tournaments for golf professionals and aims to help and promote the senior professional circuit outside of the European Senior Tour. Leeds Golf Centre is aiming to give senior golfers the opportunity to play in a full field of 72 for the main event.

Nigel Sweet, the Operations Manager at Leeds Golf Centre, joined the Senior circuit for the first time in 2016 after playing the game for 38 years and set up the Senior Masters at Leeds Golf Centre in 2017. Speaking about the event, Nigel said; “Last year was a huge success and the standard of competition was fantastic. The Senior Masters was a platform to welcome golfing legends, including Mark Booth, Andrew Oldcorn and Peter Baker on to the course at Leeds Golf Centre.

“We’re thrilled to be hosting this incredible tournament for the second year running and are looking for sponsors to support the competition and the prize pot to make 2018 even better than 2017.”

The Senior Masters at Leeds Golf Centre is not only there for players to embrace as family and friends can enjoy the three days of golfing action too – spectators are welcome throughout the three days to watch a fantastic tournament which brings amateurs and pros together.

If you would like to enter a team of 3 in to the Pro-Am or you are interested in sponsoring the event, please contact Nigel Sweet at Leeds Golf Centre on 0113 288 6000 or nigel@leedsgolfcentre.com.

Leeds Golf Centre renews its status as the UK headquarters of the Leadbetter Golf Academy

Leeds Golf Centre has announced the continuation of its partnership with David Leadbetter, arguably the most recognised name in golf tuition, reaffirming its status as the UK headquarters of The Leadbetter Golf Academy for a further 4 years.

Leeds Golf Centre was chosen as the UK home to the prestigious Leadbetter Academy in 2013 after receiving critical acclaim for its state-of-the-art teaching facilities and proposition in Leeds.

Due to the success of the partnership, Leeds Golf Centre has chosen to extend until 2020. The Centre employs two certified Leadbetter instructors as part of its six man team of PGA professionals, the most professional instructors the Golf Centre has employed at one time, due to high demand for tuition.

Chris Parker, Leadbetter Academy Manager & Senior Instructor, has been a Certified Leadbetter Instructor since 2003, during which he assisted David Leadbetter coaching players Frederick Jacobsen, Nick Price, Na Yeon Choi and Suzanne Pettersen to name a few, as well as accompanying LPGA Euro Tour players Sandra Gal and Stefanie Michl.

Certified Leadbetter Instructor and PGA professional, Joe Feather, is a former Leeds and Yorkshire player who won PGA trainee of the year in 2011. A former Asian Tour, Alps Tour and Europro Tour Player, Joe has had multiple professional tournament victories.

Over the past 30 years, The Leadbetter Golf Academy tour players have amassed over a dozen Major Championship titles and over 100 individual worldwide tournament victories – indeed, David has often been recognised as the ‘man who invented the golf instruction industry’.

Nigel Sweet, Leeds Golf Centre’s Operations Manager, added: “The Leadbetter Academy has been extremely valuable in strengthening and reinforcing our position as a leading Golf Centre, offering globally recognised golf instruction. It’s a great privilege to renew our partnership for a further four years and continue to offer golfers of all ages and abilities the opportunity to learn from world-class instructors”.

Commenting on the partnership renewal, David Leadbetter said: “Leeds Golf Centre, as one of the UK’s premier golf complexes, is the perfect venue to deliver the Leadbetter Golf Academy’s world class instruction. It’s a great pleasure to be renewing our partnership which will continue to strengthen Yorkshire’s reputation as a leading golfing region”.
